# GorGai > Free browser tool for learning to read and write Thai. Trace all 44 Thai > consonants and 32 vowels on a drawing canvas, write them from memory, and > drill recognition with an Anki-style spaced repetition scheduler. No account, > no signup, no payment. Progress is stored in the browser, not on a server. Every page below is free to use and needs no login. The site is English at the root and Thai under /th/ with the same slugs. Three modes run across consonants, vowels and words. Learn traces the character over a guide, Write hides it and asks you to draw it from memory, Read shows the character and hides the answer. Review mode layers SM-2 spaced repetition on top of Write and Read, scheduling each character separately per mode. ## Thai writing practice - [Thai writing practice, all 44 consonants](https://gorgai.net/): Trace each Thai consonant over a faint guide on a canvas, with stroke order, audio, and the Gor Gai mnemonic for every letter. - [Write Thai consonants from memory](https://gorgai.net/write-thai-consonants/): Blank canvas, no guide. You get the romanized name and draw the letter, then mark yourself right or wrong. - [Practice Thai vowels, all 32 forms](https://gorgai.net/practice-thai-vowels/): Trace every vowel form, including which side of the consonant it sits on and which short and long forms pair up. - [Write Thai vowels from memory](https://gorgai.net/write-thai-vowels/): Recall both the vowel shape and its position with no guide on screen. - [Trace real Thai words](https://gorgai.net/practice-thai-words/): 89 common words traced whole, so the joins between letters get practised rather than single characters in isolation. - [Spell Thai words from memory](https://gorgai.net/write-thai-words/): You get the meaning and the sound, you write the Thai. ## Thai reading practice - [Thai reading practice with real words](https://gorgai.net/read-thai-words/): 89 Thai words across animals, food, greetings, numbers, colors, body parts, places and daily life. Two of them, ฃ and ฅ, are obsolete but still counted. - Thai consonants fall into three tone classes: 9 mid, 11 high, 24 low. - Thai has 32 vowel forms, which can sit before, after, above, below, or around the consonant they modify. - Thai has 5 tones and 4 tone marks. The tone mark alone does not determine the tone; the consonant class and the syllable ending decide it with the mark. - Romanized letter names mislead English readers. The first letter, ก (gor gai), is not a "g" as in "go"; it is an unaspirated k, the sound in "skate" rather than "kate". GorGai shows IPA and an aspirated or unaspirated marker on every consonant for this reason. ## About - [About GorGai](https://gorgai.net/about/): Why the tool exists and who built it. - [Thai teachers](https://gorgai.net/learn-thai-with-a-teacher/): Vetted teachers, listed free, no commission taken. - [Blog](https://gorgai.net/blog/): Posts on reading Thai in the wild. ## Printables (paid) Everything above is free and stays free.
